Police officers assembled outside Beetwell Street police station in around - 1940.

On the corner of Beetwell Street and South Street was a Georgian-style quadrant building with three ornate features, which looked rather like grandfather clocks. - late 1950's

Beetwell Street in 1965. The buildings on the north side of the road have been demolished for road widening. There were butchers, pawnbrokers, watch repairers, fishmongers, hairdressers and tobacconists along here. Quite a few buildings survive on the south side, including the Spread Eagle, which dates back to 1479 and was at one time a coaching inn.

After road widening the land on the south side of Beetwell Street remained empty with a sign proclaiming that it was reserved for development by motor dealers Boult and Clough.

Beetwell Street in the 1980s. A row of portakabins was erected for shops to carry on trading whilst property was demolished to clear sites for the new Vicar Lane development. The rear of the new stores and a large car park now occupy this space.

The Spread Eagle Public House, 7, Beetwell Street - 2003
Late C18/early C19 facade, possibly with earlier core. Painted brick with band at 1st floor sill. Slate roof with coped gable ends, and end chimneys. 3 storeys, 2 windows, sashes with keystones and late C19 glazing. 3 light sash to east side, ground floor, arched carriageway entrance under west side. Door under east side of arch has pilasters, medallions and cornice. Rear wing, painted brick with pantiled roof and stone slate verges. 2 storeys. 3 windows, now modern casements but earlier blocked windows traceable in facade.

Boiler House Behind Number 9, Beetwell Street.-

Late C18/early C19. Small 1 storey building. Formerly office of Tallow Chandlers who occupied premises. Brick with original bow window with dentil cornice and corbels. This faces north and is visible from street through archway. 2 late C18/early C19 sliding casements. Roof now corrugated iron.

9 Beetwell Street - 2005

This property is recorded in 1479 as a gift from John Williamson to the Parish Church. Late C16/early C17 building with later additions and alterations. Facade now roughcast render. Tiled roof with off centre chimney. 2 storeys and cellar. Circa 4 bays width, 2 windows and additional small modern centre window 1st floor. Ground floor has 1 western window 6 panelled door with small rectangular fanlight and architrave. To east, Cl9 shop front with panelled pilasters and large reeded consoles. House windows all unbarred sashes in boxed frames. Large eastern carriageway arch under building, timber framing visible in wall beneath. Interior has exposed ceiling beams and panelling of a type prevalent during the C16 and early C17. Carved panels above 2 doors. Built in C18 cupboards with arches, fluted columns and fluted keystones. Late C16/C17 Derbyshire stone fireplace. Rear gable and rear wing (southern section of latter demolished some years ago). Through purlin roof with purlins trenched into back of blade. Collar, tie beams and ridge. 3 bays of unequal length. C17 window with leaded quarrels remains in gable end wall, now covered externally by neighbouring C18 house. Flagged rear. Courtyard qualified for grade II* for interior and historicalinterest.

11 Beetwell Street - 2005
1780. Red brick with slate roof and western chimney. 3 storeys. 2 windows, sashes with moulded boxed frames, 1st floor with stuccoed lintels, all with glazing bars.
Ground floor has western shop front with cornice on consoles enriched with floral design. Vertical glazing bars remain. Carriageway arch under building at eastern side, set in painted brick surround. Long rear wing. At rear, brick paved courtyard.

Well At Rear Of Number 11, Beetwell Street - 2005
Present wel head C190 Brick base with handle and beam. Roof but covering material has mostly disappeared.

13 and 15 Beetwell Street - 2005
Late C18/early C19. Red brick with slate roof. Centre and end chimneys. 3 storeys. 2 windows, sashes with boxed frames and glazing bars, 1st floor windows with stuccoed lintels. Ground floor has C19 shop front with cornice on enriched consoles with floral design. Fascia board covers centre. Some vertical glazing bars remain to shop window.
