The First Fire Men in 1901 on Theatre Yard off Low Pavement. The Sound Fire Men Ten years later in 1911, the Fire Brigade, still seeking to improve the efficiency of its fire long equipment, purchased a new motor fire engine at a cost of £1,000 from Merryweather & Sons, capable of pumping 450 gallons aa minute. At the same time an extension was made to the Fire Station to accommodate the new engine.

Behind the taller block was Theatre Yard, where a playhouse once stood and, later, a yard where firemen drilled with their appliances. To the right is Falcon Yard, by the building used at one time as a charge room by the police. - 1982.
