At the races in Chesterfield
Chesterfield Races go back to the late 17th century, when they were set up by the first Duke of Devonshire, and were run over a 2 mile course encompaassing the whole of Whittington Moor and Newbold Moor. The races became less frequent by the end of the 19th century, and finally ceased in 1924, when the last ace was run.
Regular race meetings began on the course at Whittington Moor in 1727 and lasted for almost two hundred years. The course is now built on and the only reminder is a street name and the ‘Racecourse’ Tavern. This Nadin card wast posted in August 1907 and features the Helter -Skelter.
