Stephenson Place

Stephenson Pace was named after George Stepenson. He wasresponsible for routing the North Midland Railway through Chesterfield. He married a daughter of a local farmer and spent the last twelve years of his life living at Tapton House near Chesterfiel and died there in 1848.He is buried at Holy Trinity Church beneath the alter, and a stained glass window was installed in his memory. A statue of him was erected in 2006 outside the town's railway station.
